Grumbus’s Berry Good Day

Dear Diary,

I had a great day today.

Mika, Sam, and I picked sweet strawberries for our favorite strawberry shortcake recipe at the local farm. The sun was shining, the bees were buzzing, and the strawberries were still covered in the morning dew.

Sam kept picking the green ones, being the curious bunny he is. He even convinced me to try one. It was so tart my ears twitched! I think I’ll stick with the sweet pink ones from now on.

Once we got home, we washed and cut up our strawberries, sprinkled a little sugar on top, and tucked them in the fridge for later. They needed time to get all syrupy and delicious. Afterward, I took a little nap in the shade of our favorite old oak tree. Strawberry adventures are exhausting!

When I woke up, it was biscuit time. We made a mess in the kitchen, flour everywhere, but the biscuits were light, fluffy, and perfect.

After the biscuits cooled, we needed to decide which TV show we wanted to watch (Mika voted for The Great British Bake Off, and Sam voted for Spring Baking Championship. The Great British Bake Off won, yay!! Then we assembled the shortcakes. First, we put a little splash of milk in the bottom of the bowl, then shredded up a cooled biscuit, spooned on the syrupy strawberries, and topped it with a big, fluffy dollop of whipped cream.

It. Was. Perfect.
The best strawberry shortcake ever. Honestly, it might be our favorite part of spring. We only make it once a year, but the tradition is just as sweet as the dessert.

Sweet dreams,
Grumbus
